Jenny is a 27-year-old LDS single woman from Provo, Utah. She grew up in a traditional Mormon family with 6 kids, 4 cars, 2 dogs, and 1 pool. Jenny was the black sheep of the family, being the only one of her siblings that didn’t attend an ivy league school (or Stanford), the only one scorned for skiing 100 days/year for 5 years, as well as the only one diagnosed with a severe case of Peter Pan Syndrome (she can’t seem to grow up).
But Jenny still tries to contribute to the world. She likes watching the Food Network (so she can cook for others), reading satirical books about grammar (so she can correct others), and sleeping (so she doesn’t disturb others). Some of her greatest influences in life have been Jesus, Abe Lincoln, Mother Teresa, in addition to Arrested Development, 30 Rock, and (her favorite) Scrubs.
During a recent quarter-life crisis, Jenny took up a handful of new hobbies such as boxing, guns, and writing on this tongue-in-cheek blog. She noticed how life was really funny as an “older” single Mormon and decided to share her perspective to the cyber world.
The idea for a “date Jenny” site came from her co-workers. Jenny works mainly with successfully married men in their mid- to late-thirties. As they righteously followed the norm of Mormon culture, each married before the age of 25. Jenny’s co-workers have felt sorry for Jenny, as she is still single and only getting older. So they came up with an idea to help Jenny out. The plan was to create an elaborate (and bogus) website about Jenny and what it’s like to date her. The site was to include a biography, testimonials from past suitors (”I dated Jenny once, and it was the best thing ever!”), a store (selling “I dated Jenny!” t-shirts), a board of directors (my co-workers), etc.
Jenny wanted this website not to be a campaign to get Jenny married, but to be a campaign to get Jenny dating (sort of like Steve Colbert’s brief campaign for President. He did not want to be President, he just wanted to “run for the Presidency.”)
Anyway, as soon as the “No Fun Patrol” (i.e. the boss) heard rumor of the website, it was immediately shut down. Jenny lacked the technical skills to carry the project by herself, but she couldn’t let the $8 for the domain name www.datejenny.com go to waste, so she started this blog. The blog has helped Jenny realized that even though many do not listen to her in real life, she might just have a friendly ear in the cyber world. She appreciates all her readers.
